I have been fortunate to visit Gir National Park & Lion Sanctuary on e occasions, first in November 2008 which was the annual get-together of members of Indianaturewatch.com and more recently in May 2012 which was a camp organised by Bombay Natural History Society(BNHS). the visits were during different seasons so you get to see Gir in different colours. My most recent visit was from June 7-9, 2024 with Rural Pleasures, Gir has undergone tremendous transformation since the last 12 years
This is my 3rd visit to Gir after 12 years and Im super excitied to be back in this interesting one of a kind Lion Sanctuary and National Park that is famous as the last home of the Asiatic Lion Panthera leo persica. . As of a recent census in 2025, the numbers have increased to over 900. However, most of them have made their territory outside the safe havens of the sanctuary and are actually carving our new territory.
