I have been fortunate to visit Gir National Park & Lion Sanctuary on e occasions, first in November 2008 which was the annual get-together of members of Indianaturewatch.com and more recently in May 2012 which was a camp organised by Bombay Natural History Society(BNHS). the visits were during different seasons so you get to see Gir in different colours. My most recent visit was from June 7-9, 2024 with Rural Pleasures, Gir has undergone tremendous transformation since the last 12 years
As we enter the gates of the Sanctuary in the early hours of the morning, a lazy male Lion is having his morning nap. We wait for him to get up, but he takes his own time and finally rolls over and sits up. After some time he majestically walks into a tree and attends to his call of nature before striding off.
